After visiting Casa Republica last month, it came as no surprise to learn that it had been listed by Travel+Leisure as one of the best places to travel in South America in January.
Casa Republica is the newest boutique hotel in Barranco and has much in its favor. To begin with, the property has an enviable location on the very lovely Avenida Saenz Pena. Dotted with scenic early 20th century mansions, this street draws locals and travelers seeking to experience the romantic atmosphere of Lima’s bohemian enclave by the sea.
The hotel sits in one of those mansions. Most recently a lawyer’s office, the hotel has been totally renovated from the inside out, but with key architectural features kept intact. The blue painted exterior is bright as the Lima sky (on rare cloudless days). And the white trimming makes this hotel utterly Instagrammable.
Moving inside, high ceilings provide a wide canvas for interiors filled with intriguing art, not to mention carefully selected furnishings. Art loving guests, in particular, will love the rotating collection of works from local artists.
From the beautiful ceramics in the bathrooms to its freshly prepared breakfast, the ethos of Casa Republica is defined by a focus on local providers.
For guests, this means a more meaningful connection to the culture of Lima and Peru.
Casa Republica has 22 rooms divided between the original mansion and a modern annex in the garden. Each of the rooms was designed to reflect the bohemian vibe of the Barranco district and stay true to the property’s roots as a weekend retreat.
Every room includes a King or Queen size bed. The marble bathrooms boast a separate shower and tub. Overlooking the mansion and garden, the Jardin Suite has 2 King beds and is large enough to accommodate a small family. On the other end, solo travelers have an option to book the Republica standard room with double bed.
Our favorite features at this hotel cover the most important parts of the day. Namely, breakfast and leisure time. Mornings begin with a daily breakfast featuring made to order eggs, cheese, charcuterie, juice, yogurt/muesli, fruit, bread from neighborhood bakery La Panetteria. And when you’re ready to rest, go to the huge rooftop terrace for 360 views of Barranco, nearby Miraflores and the sea.
Other hotel amenities include bespoke locally made toiletries, free wifi access, tea & coffee making facilities, laundry service, and 24 hour reception.
For travelers who wish to immerse themselves in bohemian Barranco, we can’t emphasize enough the unbeatable location. As easy walk gets you to the district’s best restaurants. And casual exploration of the side streets takes you past art galleries, street murals, and charming shops galore.
For all these reason and more, we gladly recommend Casa Republica to INCAS travelers.
